With the 99th pick
. . . the LA Rams select Devontez Walker, wide receiver, out of North Carolina.
The wide receiver position is incredibly deep in the 2024 NFL Draft. So deep, perhaps, that some suggest that NFL starters can be found all the way until Day 3 of this draft. And for all intents and purposes, that level of optimism in very much on the right track.
The LA Rams love to add wide receivers, and there is plenty to love about 6-foot-2 193-pound wide receiver Devontez Walker. He is a tall receiver with blazing speed, ideally suited for those 'stretch the field' plays that veteran starting quarterback Matthew Stafford is so good at throwing. It's that big-play panache that makes Walker so appealing to this offense.
His size, speed, and leaping ability truly turn heaving the football as hard as possible into catches. And he still has room to grow and improve. In three years of college football, he put up 1,744 receiving yards and 19 touchdowns. He even rushed six times for 52 yards and a touchdown.
The Rams offense may be seeking a receiver who brings a new dimension, and Devontez Walker does exactly that. He is a huge target with blazing speed, restoring the ability to stretch defenses without tipping their hand at doing so with decipherable personnel packages.
Walker not only warrants playing time in his rookie season, but if he has a great training camp, he could push veteran WR Tutu Atwell into a roster bubble. He is one of the reasons why North Carolina QB Drafke Maye is considered one of the best quarterback prospects in this draft class.
