The sound of a quarterback calling out his signals, the perfect arc of a spiralling football launched to a speeding receiver, the thrill of a defensive back timing his jump to deflect that pass at the last possible second, these are the moments of LA Rams training camp that I enjoy the most. It's the first opportunity to meet and greet the newcomers to the team and see them perform in new surroundings. It's the offseason, yes. But it's one more sign that football is on its way.

The new roster for the LA Rams is not fixed. This is a dynamic process throughout the summer. While the heavy lifting for the team will be accomplished during and immediately following the 2024 NFL Draft, the roster will continue to be trimmed and grated, until the coaches and front office are satisfied that the competition level for this team has been optimized.

With the 2024 NFL Draft now just days away, the LA Rams offseason is about to get underway. That means the team is even closer to the beginning of their off-season workouts.

When is the first day of the Rams offseason workouts, and where??

The Rams open up the facilities for their offseason workouts on Wednesday, April 17. Right now, the site for the team's workouts is a bit up in the air. The team is moving training to the site of their new training complex at Woodland Hills, CA.

The facility will be located at the corner of West Oxnard Street and Canoga Avenue and will be part of the nearly 100 acres in Woodland Hills acquired in 2022 by Los Angeles Rams Owner/Chairman E. Stanley Kroenke.

How long do Rams offseason workouts last?

To ensure objectivity and a level playing field, all NFL teams' voluntary offseason workout programs are limited to nine-week programs. The purpose of these sessions is to provide training, teaching, and physical conditioning for players. The sessions are categorized into three scheduled phases.

Phase 1 begins on opening day and continues for two weeks. It consists of team meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation.

Phase 2 follows, lasting three weeks, and features walk-through practices, on-field drills, and more. On-field workouts may include individual or group instruction and drills. Offensive players can only drill with offensive players, defensive players can only drill with defensive players. No live contact or team offense versus team defense drills are permitted.

Finally, the final three weeks are for Phase 3, and teams may conduct up to 10 days of organized team practice activity (OTAs). 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills can be run during OTAs, but no live contact is permitted.

What are the dates that Rams fans need to know?

  • First Day: April 17
  • OTA Offseason Workouts: May 22-23, May 25, May 30-31, June 2, June 5-8
  • Rookie Minicamp: May 14-16
  • Mandatory Minicamp: June 13-15

What happens during the special minicamp just for rookies?

The LA Rams hold a three-day rookie minicamp, an important event for all Rams rookies. This minicamp is designed to orient new rookies with a series of meetings to address their unique questions but allows them to form instant bonds with other rookies competing with them throughout training camp. It also allows coaches to see how the rookies stack up together.

Are any sessions mandatory?

While nearly all sessions are optional, it is in the players' best interests to attend. New positional coaches, new teammates, and new playbooks are all important reasons to attend. Of course, the mandatory minicamp held from June 13-15, 2024 is exactly as it sounds, mandatory attendance for all players.

The team's training camp will open in the latter half of July 2024.

As always, thank you for reading.
