IV: What took so long for the Rams OL to gel in 2023?

The creation of chemistry in any NFL group, or unit, is not as simple or as easy as some may thing. Talented players who are worthy of starting in the NFL are mixed and matched each year via the annual NFL Free Agency market. And the results of veteran players on new teams in new offensive or defensive schemes is mixed. Some work out. Many do not. Why?

The easy answer is not always the best answer. Sometimes a player simply does not excel in an NFL team's systerm. If one offensive lineman is best at becoming an immovable object, but his teammates are better suited at jackhammering a defender into submission, they will not be compatible despite either style having a place in the NFL.

So let's break down the LA Rams starting offensive line in a data table below to get a feel for how the Rams reconfigured their starters over the course of the season:

If you look at the table, the Rams offensive line did not have the final starting five configuration on the football field at the same time until Week 5. but lost starting RT Rob Havenstein to injury in Weeks 8 and 9. The evidence is such that the Rams offense did not gel until after the Week 10 BYE because the Rams offensive line had to deal with frequent changes to the starting unit until that time.

And therein lies the rub. The missing factor from the 2022 NFL season, which turns out to be continuity among the Rams starting five offensive linemen. But if it was so difficult to achieve in 2023, and impossible to achieve in 2022. are the LA Rams willing to surrender in easily for the 2024 NFL season? That's what we are about to discuss.
