Rams playoff hopes are incredibly slim after depressing 0-2 start

The Los Angeles Rams are in an 0-2-sized hole to start their 2024 season and unfortunately, it's going to be difficult for this team to climb their way out of this hole. After narrowly losing to the Lions in Week 1, the Rams got the doors blown off of them by the Cardinals and just like that, this team is going to have to fight just to get back to .500.

Unfortunately, the Rams' schedule doesn't really give them much leeway, as their next two games are against the 49ers and the Bears. The 49ers are the reigning NFC champs while the Bears are still figuring things out but could have something cooking by Week 4.

ESPN FPI doesn't have high hopes for the Rams to turn things around and make the playoffs, giving them a 10.3% chance of making it to the postseason. The Rams have the fourth-worst percentage to make the playoffs, sitting only ahead of the Panthers, Giants, and Broncos.

When looking at why the Rams are having such a tough time to start the year, the injuries on offense are easy to blame. Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp are both banged up and the Rams have been without their two starting tackles, making things incredibly difficult for Matthew Stafford. The Rams signal-caller was sacked five times on Sunday against the Cardinals.

Rams have their work cut out for them after 0-2 start

As mentioned earlier, the Rams' schedule doesn't exactly get easier from here. They'll host the 49ers in Week 3 and the Niners are coming off a loss of their own. The next week, Rams will head to the Windty City to play Caleb Williams in his fourth-ever NFL game, so that one is winnable but the Bears defense looks tough.

If the Rams end up not rebounding, the good news is that they'll finish high enough in the 2025 NFL Draft standings and can find Stafford's replacement. It might not be fun to watch the Rams struggle but that's at least a silver lining that can come if the team finishes poorly.
