Rams QB Matthew Stafford's wife Kelly won't attend 1st game, for good reason

After enduring booing and heckling from Lions fans in the 2024 NFL Playoffs, Matthew Stafford's family won't attend the Sunday Night Football season opener.

Matthew and Kelly Stafford used to call Ford Field 'home,' at least when it came to football games. But that is no longer the case for either, a fact that caught the LA Rams quarterback's wife completely by surprise in the Wild Card Round of the 2024 NFL Playoffs. It was a scene out of a horror movie for the Stafford family. The couple whetted their NFL teeth for 12 seasons playing for the Detroit Lions. But when they arrived at Ford Field to face the Playoff-starved Lions team a year ago, something happened.

Not only was LA Rams starting quarterback Matthew Stafford booed relentlessly by Lions fans. His wife and daughters were booed as well. That did not sit well with the Staffords then. Thankfully, Kelly Stafford will not subject their children to relentless boos this year. The Stafford family, sans Matthew Stafford, will be watching the Sunday Night Football game from the comfort of their own home:

This is what Kelly Stafford had to say about the game in her podcast, The Morning After.

"After our amazing, amazing live show, I’m going to hop on a plane and head home so I can watch it with my daughters here."

Of course, it's never okay to boo children, even if they are actually on the football field and competing as well. But targeting the children of opposing players? That is absolutely crossing the line.

But the Ford Field fans' reactions could have been anticipated. After all, this is the NFL, not some episode of Keeping Up WIth The Kardashians. Knowing that the Rams would face the Lions in the NFL Playoffs, I don't think anyone was surprised that passionate fans booed and heckled anyone and everyone associated with the Los Angeles Rams in that game.

In the end, booing Stafford children should never have happened. Thankfully, it won't have a chance of happening this year.
