Rams release of this player has ignited old wounds among NFC East fans

Few players released by the LA Rams attracts attention from fans of NFC East teams. But Boston Scott is unique, and fans reactions to his release has been very entertaining.

It appears that the LA Rams decision to sit running back Kyren Williams, Blake Corum, and Ronnie Rivers before the preseason games was an indication that neither of the other two running backs would make the team's 53-man roster. That's a mild disappointment, as veteran running back Boston Scott ended the NFL preseason with 36 carries and 157 rushing yards. He finished preseason among the Top Five rushers in the NFL.

Good? Yes. But apparently not good enough. The Rams had seemingly filled their quota, and Scott's solid preseason performance was unable to pry loose a roster spot with the LA Rams. And so, he was dismissed among the first wave of NFL players cut by the team:

Few players released by the LA Rams, or any NFC or AFC West Division teams attract much interest from NFL fans from the East Coast. But Boston Scott is, well, different. You see, after playing for years with the Philadelphia Eagles, he became known as the 'Giant Killer,' as he has several outstanding games against the Eagles NFC East Division rivals, the New York Giants.

And so, his sudden and unexpected availability prompted fans from both the Eagles and the Giants to weigh in on what his next move should be, and how their respective teams should act in terms of signing him or moving on.

Philadelphia Eagles fans reactions

For Philadelphia Eagles fans, loyalty to players who have been instrumental to winning games, and who put out their best efforts on the football field, are never forgotten. And so, the news of Scott's release prompted some fans to share on social media what so many are thinking and feeling:

Some used a more rational approach. He was quite effective in the red zone in the Eagles offense. Therefore, the Eagles should restore him to the team:

Others aimed their enthusiasm for re-signing RB Boston Scott not to the internet at large, but to Philadelphia Eagles GM Howie Roseman:

I think you get the point. Eagles fans want him back.

New York Giants fans react a bit differently

For the fans of the New York Giants, the fan reactions were a bit . . . different. It makes sense, because realizing that a player who had great games when facing your team was back on the market forced them to face the possibility that the 'Giant Killer,' might be back, grinding out huge chunks of yards on the ground once more.

One fan suggested the Giants sign him just to keep him off the Eagles roster:

Another Giants fan hinted at a signing with his team without coming right out to say it:

Finally, another Giants fan did not ask the team to sign Scott. He simply asked Scott to go anywhere but back to Philly:

Few NFC East Division fans pay much attention to the roster cuts from NFC West Division teams, but clearly veteran RB Boston Scott is an exception. The curious thing is, Scott did play well enough to warrant interest from other NFL teams. Will the Eagles regret his release after the 2023 season and re-sign him? Or will the Giants show the epitome of spite, and sign him just to prevent the Eagles from doing so?

This may not an LA Rams story any longer, but it remains an entertaining one. Stay tuned.

And as always, thanks for reading.
