With the 60th pick

of the 2024 NFL Draft, the LA Rams select Xavier Legette, wide receiver, out of South Carolina. We featured Legette in a recent article as a prospect who had NFL breakout potential, much like 2023 rookie sensation Puka Nacua. Legette already has the endorsement of former NFL star WR Steve Smith Sr. But much of the hype for Legette is based on his fifth and final season with the South Carolina Gamecocks. So is he the real deal? Or is he just a one-hit wonder?

Well, to understand that answer, we have to realize that there was a lot of upheaval and tragedy intertwined with Legette. I thought about summing up what Legette had to deal with throughout college, but this social media summary says it best.

One thing that stood out to me about Legette's life and the adversity he faced, he lost both parents while at college within six months of one another. Here he is in his own words:

Legette has overcome everything to be considered one of the top receiver prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft, a draft that is loaded at the position. That says a lot about a prospect who had every reason to shrug his shoulders and surrender to sadness. Instead, he rose from the ashes to set school records. This 6-foot-1 221-pound wide receiver caught 71 passes for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns in 2023.

It is that perseverance and grind that sets him apart from all other prospects in this draft class.

Legette has an advanced route tree, he has the skillsets to match up with and defeat any type of secondary pass coverage. His strong hands make him an ideal target in a crowd, and his speed (4.39-second 40-yard-dash) is fast enough to threaten even the best NFL secondaries.

Best of all, he has extensive experience as a return specialist, managing to return 29 kickoffs 767 yards and one touchdown. There are many fine wide receivers in the 2024 NFL Draft. I am proud to say that Xavier Legette is one of them.
