The LA Rams are not done just yet with their initial 53-man roster tweaking, it seems. With the team facing the release of undrafted rookie DE Anthony Goodlaw, the team's defensive line, though six players, seems a bit thin. That is especially true for the nose tackle position, where veteran NT Bobby Brown is the default starter. But with former NT Kobie Turner taking on a new role on the defensive line, joined by the versatile defensive tackles Tyler Davis and Braden Fiske. The team has also welcomed DE Desjuan Johnson and DT Cory Durden.
But the team believes that more, or different, players are needed for the 2024 NFL season. And so, ESPN NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler is reporting that former Dallas Cowboys NT Neville Gallimore, fresh off his release from the Miami Dolphins, is on a plane to Los Angeles, California to sign on with the LA Rams:
So the question of Gallimore reportedly signing with the team opens the question: Who do the Rams release to make room?
Another DB to be released?
With 53 players on the Rams roster, the best guess is to focus on the deepest positional group on the roster. I guess that undrafted rookie defensive back Charles Woods may be the player most likely to be released to make room. Woods is a 5-foot-11 185-pound defensive back who didn't really stand out as well as other players. Per Pro Football Focus, he allowed five of six targets to find their mark, while getting four solo tackles. In my estimation, he is the 11th-best defensive back of the 11 defensive backs currently on the Rams roster.
So what does Neville Gallimore bring to the defense?
While more of a rotational player than starter, Gallimore is a solid nose tackle/defensive tackle type who can make tackles, apply some pressure on the quarterback, stuff the run, and has a dependable veteran presence to ensure a consistent quality of play. At 6-foot-2 and 302 pounds, Gallimore is a sturdy and powerful player to join the defensive front line.
The Rams still have to sign players to their 16-player practice squad. Stay tuned. And as always, thanks for reading.
