Rams scramble to reconfigure the offensive line once more, with Week 1 looming

Deep on paper, the LA Rams starting offensive line appears to be dangerously thin heading into a Week 1 showdown with the Detroit Lions.

Rams are not done yet

The team seems to have missed the bullseye in terms of the offensive line right now. While we have projected the team to carry 10 offensive linemen this season, the team has had to deal with injuries to four players, all offensive tackles. They are Alaric Jackson (ankle injury, plus two-game suspension), Rob Havenstein (ankle/foot injury), KT Leveston (ankle injury, IR/Designated to return) and Conor McDermott (IR)

The Rams currently have eight offensive linemen on the active roster, but only seven healthy players. And until Rob Havenstein returns to the active lineup, the team has no depth at either offensive tackle position, save practice squad OT AJ Arcuri.

That is a huge concern as the team readies for Week 1:

Even if the team manages to sign a veteran offensive tackle now, we know from 2020 that he will need several weeks to be gameday ready. In light of the risks to any form of injury, and the havoc that could cause the team in Week 1, the Rams have to be weighing committing to plenty of 12 personnel formations to start the season.

It's not just the health of offensive linemen at stake any longer. The team has to ensure that veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford can remain upright throughout 2024. Despite all the depth of the offensive line that this team had on paper leading into the season, now that we are here, that depth has already dissipated.

And ready or not, here come the Detroit Lions.
