Rams select KT Leveston with No. 254: Instant grade and analysis
By Bret Stuter
The LA Rams may not get the highest grades from draft analysts, but I don't know that any of that even matters. The goal of any draft is to upgrade the roster overall, fill holes at positions without starters or backups, and if all else fails, at least elevate the level of competition throughout the soon-to-be summer training camp.
While there will always be the mixed emotions of prospects the Rams did not select to the team, despite our impassioned pleas for the team to do so. And yet, in the end, the Rams final pick is more of mailbox addition rather than the building the foundation as was the case for Days 1 and 2.
We noted that the Rams lost three interior offensive linemen, but had only replaced one via free agency. Well, with the 254th pick, the front office has balanced out the roster at offensive line. The team opted for KT Levenston
Leveston is a no-nonsense powerhouse of an offensive lineman, and someone who loves to play football. He is no slouch in the size department either, standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 324 pounds. He is a road grader at run blocking, able to move his defender out of the hole with solid footwork and keep him out of the running lane with excellent hand and footwork. In pass blocking, Leveston is a maul-and-brawl blocker, able to neutralize his defender by parrying the defender's attempts to grab and toss him to the side.
Leveston has a great center of gravity, and keen awareness of football fundamentals for an offensive linemen. Where he struggles in refining his hand technique and polishing his footwork. All weaknesses are coachable and expected this late in the draft.
He played at left tackle for Kansas State, but all draft profiles project him to move inside at the NFL level.
