When the LA Rams signed free agent running back Boston Scott, a long-time fan favorite of the Philadelphia Eagles fans, I saw many ways he could aid the team this season. After all, not only was he an adept offensive weapon that could spell other running backs, but he had a reputation for coming into a game off the bench and simply taking over a game. That type of instant production has not been common in the past.

Yet that was just a tip of what Scott could bring to this team. Could being the operative word. Scott was solidly anchored as a return specialist for the Eagles, and the new kickoff rules imposed in 2024 by the NFL created a void of what to expect and how to strategize. And so, Scott became a member of the LA Rams 'brain trust,' to assess and strategize the best tactics to deploy under the new regulations.

And he was a veteran voice in a running back room filled with young rushers. So the front office was able to add a veteran to guide and mentor younger rushers on the team. He did his job well, so well that the team has released him:

Scott was undeniably effective in the Rams preseason. In three preseason games, he rushed 36 times for 157 yards, an average of 4.36 yards per carry. He will likely draw interest from some NFL teams, as he has the type of resume that lends itself to a change-of-pace running back who can also catch passes as well.

This move leaves Kyren Williams, Blake Corum, Ronnie Rivers, and Zach Evans remaining on the Rams roster. With the release of Scott, I would not be shocked if the team followed up with the release of RB Zach Evans and perhaps even Ronnie Rivers. If Rivers, Evans, or both are also released, I would expect the team to prioritize signing them to the 16-player practice squad.

Stay tuned, The front office is just getting started. More will be on the way. But releases may all happen at once, in several batches, or dribs and drabs. To stay up to date, we recommend checking in with our LA Rams Roster Cuts Tracker, where we will record all of the team's latest news about releasing players.

And as always, thanks for reading.
