The LA Rams are one of the NFL teams that remain active throughout the season in terms of tweaking and attempting to upgrade the team, whether that means the active 53-man Rams roster or the practice squad. Even as the Rams head into their final five games of the 2023 season, the Rams front office is at it again. On this occasion, the Rams have decided to part with one of their six tight ends, and one of two tight ends on their practice squad, Miller Forristall.

The roster move is curiously timed. The Rams have finally evened their record at 6-6 and are traveling to take on the very formidable Baltimore Ravens (9-3) in Week 14. Travelling to face the Ravens is a huge task unto itself, but the Rams must do so after the Ravens coming off their BYE week.

TE Morris Forristall is a blocking tight end who was eligible to be drafted in the 2021 NFL Draft. Standing 6-foot-5 and weighing 245 pounds, he was originally signed by the Tennessee Titans. He was released by the Titans, but was quickly signed by the Cleveland Browns. He remained on the Browns practice squad until 2023. This season, he was given an opportunity with the New Orleans Saints and the Cleveland Browns before signing with the LA Rams in September 2023.

He did not make an appearance in any LA Rams games this season.

Changing players on the Rams practice squad is unlikely to have any impact on the outcome of the Rams upcoming game. Actually, this move has little chance to impact any of the remaining five games on the Rams schedule. But the Rams are creating a roster opening for someone. The question is: Who?

Are the Rams creating an opening to trial a new FG kicker? That has been a glaring weakness for the Rams this season. Are the Rams looking for wide receiver help? The injury to WR Puka Nacua against the Cleveland Browns, coupled with the ongoing injury to WR Cooper Kupp, may have the Rams seeking emergency reinforcements for the final five games.

In any case, the Rams are unlikely to be content with an open slot on the practice squad. So look for the Rams to sign a player in the next day or so.
