(3) - Hard hitting safety Kamren Curl

The offseason hoopla over the NFL Free Agency bidding wars over former Washington Commanders safety Kamren Curl were very optimistic. Some NFL analysts considered Kamren Curl to be among the hottest free agents available in 2024. But when the LA Rams signed him on a two-year contract valued at $9 million, the hype faded pretty quickly.

It shouldn't have.

There are many reasons to be excited about this team, this defense, and even this secondary. But I believe the biggest jaw-dropping performance in Week 1 will come from Kamren Curl. He fits the design of DB Coach Aubrey Pleasant's secondary as well as NT Kobie Turner fit the #DAWGWORK discipline of former Rams DL Coach Eric Henderson.

They were made for one another.

What attracts fans to the style of Kamren Curl is the fearless linebacker-like run stuffing tackles that stop even the most physical running backs dead in their tracks. But what keeps fans mesmerized is that fact that Kamren Curl can put up sideline-to-sideline pass coverage against even the biggest and most physical NFL receivers:

Like Quentin Lake, Curl has solid pass coverage skills. In 2023, he allowed just 32 of 46 passes to find their mark, good for only a 69.6 percent completion rate. Part of the reason for that success is that Curl broke up five passes in 2023.

But tackling is something Kamren Curl brings to the defense as well. He put up 115 tackles in 2023, his career best. To that he added a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, three tackles for a loss, four quarterback pressures, and even a quarterback sack.

I love what Kamren Curl brings to this young defense. He is the new Nick Scott, the guy whose tackles will silence the 49ers loud-talking players. And that is what will endear him to even the most reluctant fans in 2024.

As always, thank you for reading.
