SoFi Stadium weather report shows Rams are blessed to be on the road in Week 1
By Bret Stuter
There are many reasons for LA Rams fans to wish for a home game to start the 2024 NFL season. Playing at SoFi Stadium gives the fans a chance to attend and cheer for their team. It involves no travel, no time zone, and no undue recovery time before or after the game from moving thousands of miles to play a football game. But the 2024 NFL schedulers did the Rams and Rams fans a huge favor.
The put the Los Angeles Rams, a team with nine home games scheduled in their 2024 NFL schedule, on the road in Week 1.
Since the Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers cohabitate at SoFi Stadium, the NFL must schedule one of the teams on the road whenever the other team plays a home game. As luck would have it, the Chargers open at home against the Las Vegas Raiders. And by all accounts, the weather forecast for Sunday indicates that it's going to be a scorcher.
Now, keep in mind that while SoFi Stadium is a domed stadium, the design is such that the fans are cooled by an open air design that routes any wind through the stadium, and hopefully keeping spectators comfortably cool. But how cool can fans get with kickoff temperatures forecasted to be in the low 90s?
Thankfully, the LA Rams will not be subjected to play in pads under such extreme temperatures. While the game itself will be played under the protective dome and closed environment of Ford Field, even the outside night temperatures are ideal for football. At kickoff, temperatures are expected to be him the high 60s, falling to the low 60s by the game's end. That means that you should take a sweater or a light jacket for the commute back to your hotel if you are traveling to attend the game.
With the Rams already dealing with excessive injuries to start the season, the last thing this team needs is to compete in excessive heat. While opening on the road to face a likely NFL Playoff team to start the season is never an easy task, at least the LA Rams will not have to face the blazing fury of the late summer sun as well.
