Is this former Rams coach in their sights?
While the LA Rams have been a very successful NFL franchise, particularly when examining the years with GM Les Snead and HC Sean McVay, there is the sense that former Rams CB Coach Ejiro Evero is the one who got away. After he left the LA Rams coaching staff in 2021, he has helped to shape staunch and young defenses with the Denver Broncos in 2022, and the Carolina Panthers in 2023.
Even as the Carolina Panthers have hired Dave Canales as their new head coach, the team has retained DC Ejiro Evero as their defensive coordinator. In the NFL, lateral moves can be blocked, and only promotions can overrule existing contracts. So far, the Panthers seem to be committed to Evero as their defensive coordinator for 2024. Will that change?
If the #Panthers let Ejiro Evero out of his contract, he will likely become DC for a third team in three years. The #Rams are among the interested clubs. Evero was on Sean McVay's staff from 2017-21 https://t.co/1I0HEApF4O

If it does change, the Rams have already queued Ejiro Evero as a candidate for their defensive coordinator that they would love to talk to. And it makes sense, as he led the Denver Broncos defense to the seventh best ranking in 2022, and the Carolina Panthers to the fourth best ranking in the NFL in 2023.
With two different teams in two successive seasons, Evero has proven to be a formidable and successful defensive coordinator.
Evero makes my list of top candidate for many reasons. Let's go over some of his most outstanding qualities:
- Smart
- Familiar with Rams coaches and players
- Instant success
- Experienced defensive coordinator
- Can communicate at elite level
- Holds players accountable
- Puts players into a position to succeed
It could be that Evero is not cleared to interview with the LA Rams for the vacant DC role, which would be quite disappointing. But we have not listed internal candidates, and you have to believe that several coaches who are currently on the Rams staff are also candidates for the job as well.
Rams DBs coach/pass game coordinator Aubrey Pleasant and ILBs coach/pass rush coordinator Chris Shula are expected to interview for defensive coordinator this week, per source.
