Game Ball I: Kobie Turner "The Conductor"
NFL nose tackles are not exactly known to be effective pass rushers. The role has been defined by the responsibility to handle the offensive center, stuff the run, handle two or three interior offensive linemen blocking on a play, and if the opportunity presents itself, try to apply pressure on the opposing quarterback.
But we have talked about how Rams rookie nose tackle Kobie Turner is not exactly the typical NFL nose tackle. After 15 games, he leads all rookies with 6.5 quarterback sacks. That number is good enough to lead the LA Rams defense in that category as well.
if you need the refresher, the LA Rams selected nose tackle Kobie Turner in Round 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft with the 89th overall pick.
That's an incredible steal for this Rams roster.
Turner is a custom fit for this Rams defense
The LA Rams had a huge need to reinforce the defensive line after the Rams failed to extend either veteran defensive lineman A'Shawn Robinson or veteran nose tackle Greg Gaines. Is it too soon to proclaim rookie NT Kobie Turner as a bona fide upgrade over Gaines or former Rams nose tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day.
The breakdown on his week 16 performance can be found below:
The LA Rams run defense has been incredibly stout in 2023. While the Rams have allowed 105.7 yards per game through 15 games, this defense stepped up for a huge run defense in a game that the Rams had to win. The Rams run defense allowed fewer than 40 rushing yards. Much of the Rams ability to stuff the run has been possible thanks to Kobie Turner's ability to decimate offensive linemen.
It's Kobie Turner's joy of playing football that has rejuvenated the passion for the game in veteran teammate Aaron Donald.
The LA Rams handed out an incredible number of footballs to commemorate their Week 16 win over the New Orleans Saints. But we believe that the Rams could have handed out at least three more game balls to worthy players. What are your thoughts? Were we too generous? Or did we miss anyone?
