This Rams rookie may finally make fans forget a former draft gaffe

Rams fans have struggled to forget a former draft gaffe by the team. But this rookie's outstanding performance so far may be enough to help them do so.

In the 2021 NFL Draft, the LA Rams had the opportunity to change the direction of the team. It may not have been a Round 1 pick, but thee team's Round 2 pick in the 2021 was still rather lofty. The team was stepping up to the podium to announce their choice with the 57th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. While many fans implored the team to do the right thing, and make a selection to lay the foundation for the team for year's to come, the Rams front office had other ideas.

The fans' choice, center Creed Humphrey, would hear his name called out by the Kansas City Chiefs with the 63rd overall pick. The Rams, unfortunately, opted to select a diminutive wide receiver named Tutu Atwell. Since adding Humphrey, the Chiefs have finished with records of :
12-5 in 2021 and would go on to a 1-1 record in the NFL Playoffs
14-3 in 2022 and would go on to win Super Bowl LVII
11-6 in 2023 and would go on to win Super Bowl LVIII

Humphrey is a two-time All-Pro as well as a two-time Pro Bowler. The LA Rams are starting their third different center in the past three years. But there is a sign that this team is being blown in a new direction ty the winds of change.

The LA Rams drafted former Arkansas rookie center Beaux Limmer as a ridiculously bargained draft find. While projected to be chosen as early as Round 3, Limmer fell to Round 6, where the team was delighted to add him to the roster. Still, it appeared that he would be playing behind Steve Avila, a second year player who flipped from left guard in 2023 to center for the 2024 season.

But then Limmer showed up, as strong as an ox, and put on the kind of performance as the Rams preseason center that Creed Humphrey would be proud of.

Now, reports are surfacing that Beaux Limmer is working with the 1s. With Jonah Jackson just now suiting up and stretching once more, the team will need to have another option for Week 1 against the Detroit Lions on the road. One option is to restore Steve Avila to left guard, where we started every snap in 2023, and install Limmer in as the center.

Limmer is as strong as they come. And he is proven to be quite adept at performing in the NFL so far. While the Rams may be playing depth players in preseason games, that is not the reality of other NFL teams.

This one bears monitoring. Limmer has absolutely crushed it, We asked how long would the Rams be content to sit Beaux Limmer on the bench this season. It seems that we have our answer. Not very long.
