This young dynamo has been released, setting up a family reunions with the Rams
By Bret Stuter
When you think of LA Rams WR Puka Nacua, you think of smiles, physicality, and plenty of on-field offensive production. But are those traits learned, or part of his genetic code? If you believe that he is a product of great coaching in college, then you likely will not be interested in this story. But if you believe that Puka Nacua is a perfect fit for the LA Rams offense, then pull up a chair, because I think you will like where this article takes you.
The front office has done a remarkable job of leveraging the chemistry and bonds of friendship among players into on-field production. The trend developed in 2023, wth the friendship between NT Kobie Turner and OLB Byron Young, a friendship that translated into a friendly but heated competition on the football. By season's end, Turner and Young led all 2023 rookies in quarterback sacks.
The team tapped that same strategy in 2024, this time drafting OLB Jareve Verse and DT Braden Fiske. The difference this season is the fact that Verse and Fiske had already forged bonds friendship and chemistry when playing side by side in the Florida State Seminoles defense. Hoping to graft that same chemistry in the Rams defensive front, the team traded up in Round 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft to ensure Braden Fiske would be selected.
If it works for defense, why not consider the offense as well?
WR Samson Nacua, older brother of Puka Nacua, was signed by the New Orleans Saints. Unfortunately, he did not earn a roster spot and has subsequently been released by the team.
But that sets up something very intriguing . . .
Family reunion inbound?
While the Saints may attempt to sign Samson Nauza to their practice squad, the Rams front office knows all too well that releasing a player allows that player to sign to the practice squad of any NFL team. And it seems to me that the Rams could benefit from a WR who has special teams capabilities like Samson Nacua:
Samsun Nacua is a 6-foot-3 195-pound wide receiver who was signed by the Indianapolis Colts after the 2022 NFL Draft. After Puka Nacua exploded in the NFL, the Saints gave him a shot to make the team.
The LA Rams should as well. The reason being is that Samson Nacua already has his brother Puka to work with, and so that friendly but fierce competition is already in place. Puka Nacua will have a great season in 2024. Could the Rams leverage that 'brotherly love' to get Samson Nacua fast-tracked? Perhaps.
Practice squad signings are less than 24 hours away. Keep Samson Nacua on your radar. Stranger things have happened. And as always, thanks for reading.
