To nobody's surprise, the Rams have seen enough from 2 outstanding rookies
By Bret Stuter
There may be a lot on the line for those players who are buried on the unofficial LA Rams depth chart, the first preseason game is a golden chance to make a move up the ranks and perhaps even claim a spot on the initial 53-man roster. But for other players, even rookies who are making their names known in NFL circles for the first time, it's only a matter of the dust settling.
After strong performances in OTAs, mandatory mini-camp, and training camp, some rookies have proven to be worthy of a roster spot already. While we expected it to happen, we know full well that rookies have a way of surprising team's when they least expect it. But Rams GM Les Snead has been having a bit of good luck when tapping the NFL Draft for reinforcements.
This is a team that found RB Kyren Williams in the 2022 NFL Draft. The same front office found NT Kokie Turner, OLB Byron Young, and WR Puka Nacua in the 2023 NFL Draft. But when it comes to the 2024 NFL Draft, the Rams may have outdone themselves.
How do we sound so confident this early in the season? Well, neither Round 1 outside linebacker Jared Verse nore defensive tackle Braden Fiske will see any action in the LA Rams first preseason game. In short, the LA Rams have seen enough. They are ready:
As a result, the Rams will be seeing other players competing to join at least two rookies on the initial 53-man roster. That comes as no surprise, but it does open the door for some fans to be disappointed. Undoubtedly, many wish to see first-hand the performances of both Verse and Fiske, particularly after the build-up of their training camp performances.
For now, it appears that fans must wait until the season opener on the road on Week 1 against the Detroit Lions to see live action. Somehow I suspect that their performances will be worth the wait.
