Top 10 sleepers for LA Rams heading into 2023 NFL Draft
By Bret Stuter
Sleeper I: Brodric Martin, Defensive lineman, Western Kentucky
LA Rams defensive line coach Eric Henderson is the best in the NFL, and I really love the idea of giving him the opportunity of working with Western Kentucky defensive lineman Brodric Martin. Martin is a huge and powerful young man, coming in at 6-foot-5 and 337 pounds, he could be that fireplug in the middle of the Rams defensive line who gobbles blockers and stuffs the run.
What I don't like about him: If you have your heart set on improving the Rams pass rush, Brodric Martin is not the guy for you, at least not quite yet. He may be one day, as Coach Henny found ways to unlock pass rushing skills for both Sebastian Joseph-Day and Greg Gaines. It took time to unlock their pass rushing skills, and it will take time to do so for Martin as well.
What I do like about him: I love blocker-gobblers, the guys who take up their position on the defensive front and cause chaos simply from the fact that offensive linemen cannot move them off their mark. Broderic Martin has been blessed with the size, girth, and power to deliver that from Day 1 in the NFL. When I take a close inspection of the Rams current defense, there are no players currently on the roster that bring Martin's skills to the table.
Martin is a blue collar small school workhorse who only knows how to put his nose to the grindstone and win with effort. If the LA Rams are going to take a flying on a defensive lineman in the sixth-round of the 2023 NFL Draft, that is what I hope the team prioritizes. Martin may not be a quarterback sack specialist, but he keeps working hard right up the middle, making quarterbacks uncomfortable as they sense the pocket collapsing and forcing them to one side or the other. Then, edge rushers can do their damage.
I will crack open a cold beer if the Rams land Brodric Martin in the 2023 NFL Draft, that's how much I like this guy.
