Toughest Home Opponent II: Green Bay Packers

Can this be real life? Or is this just fantasy? The LA Rams face the Green Bay Packers once more, but this time they are not traveling to the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field to clash with the Packers. The Packers seem to run parallel to the Rams in many ways. When the Rams were very successful, the Packers were very successful. When the Rams struggled in 2022, the Packers struggled as well, albeit not nearly as much.

Even as the Rams struggled and then got hot in 2023, so too did the Packers. The Packers also were a 3-6 team at one point in 2023 until they got hot to finish out the season. One of the biggest detriments to the Packers' 2023 season was the absence of RB Aaron Jones for five games. He certainly made an impact for the Packers in their upset victory on the road over the heavily favored Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round of the 2024 NFL Playoffs.

Much like the Rams, the Packers proved that they have turned the corner in 2023, and now are projected by some to overthrow the Detroit Lions as NFC North Champions. To do so, they will need to win games, and the Rams are back on their schedule.

Even with this game scheduled for SoFi stadium, there is a suspicious streak of bad luck that seems to afflict the Rams best player when the team faces the Packers. In the Divisional Round of the 2021 NFL Playoffs, the Rams faced the Packers with QB Jared Goff suffering an injury to his throwing hand, and with All-Pro defensive lineman Aaron Donald playing with bruised ribs. In 2023, the Rams roster was pretty beaten up, with multiple players unable to suit up to face the Packers, including quarterback Matthew Stafford.

The Rams may finally face the Packers at home. But until the Rams are healthy when doing so, this will remain a tough contest.
