Bennett is about to bounce back as well

There is a tendency for fans to proclaim permanence over players who may be struggling on a temporary basis. Perhaps the combination of Bennett's regression through the course of the 2023 preseason games, coupled by his assignment to the IR/NFI list for the entirety of the 2023 NFL season was a bit more than some fans' patience could withstand.

But just like now Cowboys QB Trey Lance seems to have a new lease on his NFL career, so too does Rams QB Stetson Bennett. How so? Well, I have asserted that the Rams' weakness of quarterback depth in the past has become a strength for this team, even if only for this season. After all, the team boasts starting quarterback Matthew Stafford, reserve backup quarterback Stetson Bennett, who will back up Stafford in Weeks 1 and 2, veteran backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who will back up Stafford in Weeks 3 through 18, and reserve quarterback Dresser Winn, who could find himself on the Rams practice squad in 2024.

Keep in mind that Bennett has been a very passionate and competitive football player who has beaten the odds over and over in his NFL career. I don't accept that the Rams sharp eye for talent, the same discernment that identified an NFL All-Time Rookie Receiver Record setter, simply was duped over Bennett.

Rather than the disclaimer that he did not take the NFL seriously enough, I interpret Bennett's reactions to step away from the game as someone who takes the NFL and the opportunity to enjoy a long-lasting NFL career too seriously. When you put yourself out there in the most competitive sport, you lose far more encounters than you win, particularly as a rookie who is learning the speed, the playbook, and the level of competition.
