We can shoot down at least one of the hottest NFL rumors right now

The Rams have a lot to fix right now. Unfortunately, this isn't one of the priorities.

(3) - Rams haven't the cap space

Right now, the LA Rams have whittled their 2024 available cap space down to $2.5 million. That means that not only is there insufficient cap space to consider adding WR Davante Adams, but it's going to be a tight squeeze just to get the team through the end of the season under the cap limit as it now stands.

Any team seeking to trade for WR Davante Adams must have $13 million of free space available. That is simply non-negotiable. And that is before any discussions of transferring assets to the Raiders for the right to pay and play Adams though the remainder of the 2024 NFL season.

Adams may be a value-added proposition for the right NFL team. But in the context of the Los Angeles Rams and the current challenges this team faces, he is simply an extravagance that is beyond the scope of the team's current priorities.

(2) -Davante Adams is not a fit

The LA Rams are quite particular about the type of wide receiver who they are interested in adding to the team. The offense loves wide receivers who block, and as we all observed in the 2024 NFL Draft, have more interest in receivers who excel in doing the team's dirty work over a guy whose name appears in the headlines for circus catches.

Of all of the superb wide receiver talentin the 2024 NFL Draft, the Rams were content to emerge with rookie WR Jordan Whittington out of Texas.

It's not that this team does not value receiver talent. Quite the opposite, in fact. But the Rams know that succeeding in this offense requires more than a pair of sticky hands and a love of fame. This is an offense that demands receivers learn to block before they get the rock. To be honest, I'm not certain how well that would sit with Adams.

What I do know is that Davante Adams has demanded a trade twice in his career of 11 seasons. While that is not excessive, he has only been with the Las Vegas Raiders 2+ years.

That's too little time for a player who is paid at his level. Hard pass in my view.
