Which gifts do you like most about rookie WR Puka Nacua?
By Bret Stuter
Christmas 2023 has come, and gone. Now it's all a matter of sitting back and enjoying the final two games on the LA Rams schedule, putting away leftovers, throwing away discarded wrapping paper, and ultimately, finding a place for all of the new gifts that you have received.
The LA Rams did not feel like a team that was desperate for wide receiver help heading into the 2023 NFL season. Quite the contrary, for a team that appeared to have multiple holes in the roster after parting ways with several key veteran contributors, the Rams wide receiver room seemed to remain well populated. Still, LA Rams head coach loves to add weapons to his offense.
With the 177th pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams select wide receiver Puka Nacua out of BYU. And that is where the legend begins. Of course, there was, and is, far more to this story than just a drafted rookie who landed on the LA Rams offense. But this is not a tale about a rookie wide receiver's journey to the NFL, but rather what he brings to the NFL and this Rams roster.
You can tell that an NFL rookie has arrived when that player makes NFL Insider and Analyst Brian Baldinger giddy with praise. Right now, Baldy has not shortage of superlatives and praises to heap on the Rams rookie receiver:
Despite the fact that he has been banged up, has been written in as an understudy for All-Pro WR Cooper Kupp, and even as the workhorse of the Rams game plan, Puka Nacua continues to produce on par with the best receivers in the NFL. So, how does he do it?
Well, he is a very talented receiver. But best of all, he has been the type of player who leaves nothing to chance. He has become one of the best receivers in the NFL because he works the hardest in the NFL. So, let's pause a moment on the day after Christmas to consider all the gifts that Puka Nacua brings to the LA Rams and the NFL this year.
