It's Week 3 of the 2024 NFL schedule, meaning Autumn is officially here. Whether that means pumpkin spice lattes, the savory smells of fallen leaves, a brisk walk in the cool crisp morning air, the sensational taste of warmth from freshly brewed coffee permeating your entire body, or simply a grocery store shopping list that includes Halloween candy and thanksgiving dinner menu items, football season is upon us.
And not a moment too soon.
While football has flooded sports headlines for several weeks, the weather has finally gotten the memo over most of the country now. Cooler weather to be exact. Sweater weather. That pivots our tailgating parties from cold cuts and cold beverages to true football fare. Brauts, tailgate tacos, chile, sloppy joes, dogs and burgers, and a host of hot dishes that make hanging out with friends and fellow fans an event worth reliving year after year.
For the San Francisco 49ers and the LA Rams, rosters are already in late-season form. Both teams are trying to handle numerous injuries to key contributors. As far as game outcomes? It's anyone's guess which team can respond more effectively.

Yes, that's right. The same crew that covered the Cardinals obliterating the Rams in Week 2 are back to cover the 49ers visit to the Rams at SoFi Stadium. If the Rams lose by a large margin this week, I hope that we never see this Fox Sports broadcast crew for the rest of the season.
Referees for 49ers vs. Rams
Head Referee: Clete Blakeman
The Head Referee in this game is Clete Blakeman, a veteran of 15 years of NFL officiating. This crew has been getting some rather noteworthy assignments so far, as they handled the Dallas Cowboys at the Cleveland Browns in Week 1, followed by the Pittsburgh Steelers at the Denver Broncos game in Week 2. In both of those games, the visiting team emerged as the victor. Let's nope that pattern changes this week.

- Down Judge: Dana McKenzie
- Line Judge: Julian Mapp
- Field Judge: Karina Tovar

If the Rams are to have any realistic hopes of competing i the postseason, they cannot fall to 0-3. If that happens, not only do the Rams start off the 2024 NFL season with a three-game losing streak, but the team will have fallen to 0-3 in the NFC, and 0-2 in the NFC Western Division. That creates a host of nightmare scenarios in any tie-breaker situation.
Winning won't be easy. The LA Rams are unlikely to have an easy time in this one, regardless of the 49ers health. Someone, or perhaps many players, must reach down deep and put up a huge game for the Rams to win in Week 3. As is the case for many NFL rookies who ascend to the upper tiers of production, Week 3 could be the rite of passage for some Rams future All-Pro.
As always, thanks for reading.
