Will veteran RB Myles Gaskin see some action in Week 8?

When the LA Rams signed veteran RB Myles Gaskin, the hope was that he would learn the Rams offense quickly, and get onto the football field for at least a handful of carries to showcase his potential in the Rams offense.

That never happened in Week 7. Instead, the Rams elevated RB Darrell Henderson Jr. from the practice squad, and paired him with veteran RB Royce Freeman. The combination of two dissimilar styles of running seemed to be quite effective for the Rams against the Pittsburgh Steelers. But that also resulted in a less-than-stellar opportunity for the LA Rams offense to have any type of role for newly signed RB Myles Gaskin.

Will Gaskin have an opportunity to carry the football this week?

Perhaps. He is active for Week 8.

Three headed serpent

If you appreciate NFL history and lore, you certainly know and respect how the Miami Dolphins integrated the styles of RBs Jim Kiick, Larry Csonka, and Mercury Morris into a formidable rushing offense. If you want to view a tribute to their Miami Dolphin Days, you can click on this link here.

While any chance to explore NFL history is alway recommended, the LA Rams really could borrow a page from the Dolphins offense behind their current three running backs: Darrell Henderson Jr, Royce Freeman, and Mercury Morris. How so?

The Rams current RB trio have similar styles for their historic Dolphins counterparts:

  1. Darrell Henderson Jr. = Jim Kiick (All-Purpose back)
  2. Royce Freeman = Larry Csonka (Power back, tough yards)
  3. Myles Gaskin = Mercury Morris (fast, slashing style running)

I don't know if Myles Gaskin will play in Week 8, and even if he does, what type of role he will bring to the Rams offense. If he plays, I hope that the Rams use him effectively. If the Rams can put up a balanced mistake-free offensive assault, the Rams have a chance to win this game.
