With less than 5 days before roster cuts, the Rams sign another FA

Is there enough time left to truly assess what this free agent can bring to the team?

If you wanted to see the LA Rams roster add some beef to the running back room, then today's news will likely be a pleasant bit of new information. But if you take a look at the calendar, realize that the Rams must trim their roster to 53 players by 1:00 pm PT on August 27, 2024, then you may see today's news in a different light.

After all, with just over 100+ hours until the team must release more than three dozen players to get down to their initial roster limit for the start of the new 2024 NFL season, just how much can a running back learn, train at, and demonstrate before he is given his release? But taking a chance and betting on oneself is the nature of the game when it comes to the NFL. And free agent running back SaRodorick Thompson is betting that he will show enough to stick with the Rams in some capacity.

Or be released and claimed by some other NFL team.

You see, he will be signing with the Rams today:

SaRodorick Thompson is definitely a bigger bodied back, listed by the team at 6-foot-0 and 220 pounds. While I have always believed that the team should have at least one power back on the roster, it seems as though the front office continues to add one, but that player never seems to get many carries, or even offensive snaps for that matter.

Thompson has trialed for the New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks, and the Dallas Cowboys. While not sticking with a team yet, he did see some action for the Seahawks in the 2023 preseason. He carried the football 21 times for 81 yards and two touchdowns.

While I would love to portray this signing as a last minute addition to the roster to fill a needed power back runner role, I cannot see the team having any chance of prepping and retaining a guy on the roster with just hours remaining before releasing so many players. But he is on the Rams team for now. And as such, anything is possible, if highly unlikely.
