If you are holding your breath over the possibility of the Los Angeles Rams making a surprise personnel move between now and the start of the 2025 NFL season, you can relax and start breathing. While the Rams front office has been known to act suddenly, it typically has two reasons for springing into action.
Either an undeniably talented player is suddenly available due to a salary or extension impasse, or the team has developed a need at a specific position due to injuries or an underperforming player. The Rams were linked to Miami Dolphins DB Jalen Ramsey when he was placed on the trade block. And the team traded for veteran IOL Kevin Dotson when the interior offensive line needed a stalwart veteran.
The thing is, neither of those circumstances is occurring right now. Unless something significantly changes with the team, the Rams roster is set up rather nicely for the 2025 NFL season. Still, the NFL off-season is also the NFL's silly season, and Pro Football Focus needs content with little happening. So, they have contrived an article to suggest some of the NFL's biggest names are on the trading block. And yes, they have named a Rams veteran as up for grabs.
Are the Rams willing to part ways with TE Tyler Higbee?
The premise of Pro Football Focus author Bradley Locker's article is not based on any NFL rumors or even credible sources, but rather on a series of unrelated facts that make a shaky case from the get-go. The article hit the streets before training camp, so perhaps it should be attributed to a slow news day.
The case for Tyler Higbee on the trade block is based on these unrelated facts:
- The Rams have other tight ends on the roster
- The Rams outright released WR Cooper Kupp
- Higbee was injured in 2024, playing just 128 snaps
- The team drafted rookie TE Terrance Ferguson

Of course, the Seattle Seahawks released TE Noah Fant after signing rookie TE Elijah Arroyo, so there is just enough there to tickle fan speculation. But let's get some reasons out there as to why the Rams are not trading or releasing Tyler Higbee.
Higbee is the best tight end on the roster right now. Despite trying to find a suitable proxy for the offense last year, Higbee's three games put up more touchdowns for the offense than all of the other Rams tight ends combined last season. And with the team trying to add more points in 2025, it makes no sense to part ways with the team's most productive tight end.
The Rams currently have Tyler Higbee under contract through the 2025 NFL season. The more likely veteran to be available in Colby Parkinson, if for no other reason than failing to meet or exceed 2024 expectations. As it now stands, Higbee and rookie Terrance Ferguson and the two tight ends who almost certainly have secured roster spots for the 2025 NFL season.
So even if the Rams are okay with paring down their number of tight ends for the 2025 NFL season, don't bet on Tyler Higbee as one of them. As always, thanks for reading.
