(7) - RB Blake Corum

The lack of carries for rookie RB Blake Corum is more than a mild surprise as the team prepares for Week 15 of the 2024 NFL season. Featured running back Kyren Williams seems to be best suited for about 230 carries per season, the number of carries he had in 2023 when he rushed for 1,144 yards and 12 touchdowns. Williams already is up to 251 carries for 1,013 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns this season.

Blake Corum has only handled the football 45 times for 182 yards. But he never carried the football in Week 3 when the Rams hosted the 49ers. So, he is a wild card for Week 15. I think that gives the Rams an advantage. Here's why:

Clearly, almost all NFL analysts who viewed Corum's arrival to the team as a sign that the team would run a two-man backfield were wrong, myself included. But even as his name was called out by the team, I could not bring myself to overlook the fact that another small-in-stature rusher joined the Rams roster of similarly sized rushers.

I have since warmed up to the idea of Blake Corum running with the football. The Rams coaching staff seems to be following behind. Corum has carried the football 45 times but has 16 rushes in the past two games. And he is averaging 4.8 yards per carry in the past two games.

Scouting report: In Week 3, the Rams rushed backup running back Ronnie Rivers two times for nine yards. I think Corum can do far better, with eight to ten rushes for 50-70 yards in Week 15.
