49ers have a tough off-season ahead of them

I'm not as intimate with the San Francisco 49ers roster details, salary cap, and projected 2025 free agents as I should be. Still, I know that the 49ers have 22 projected free agents in 2025, an estimated $55.3 million of available cap space to spend, 47 projected roster slots to fill, and a cash-laden contract to negotiate to retain starting quarterback Brock Purdy.

That's a lot of overtime for the front office staff.

Of course, with so many injuries this season bound to heal for 2025, and the automatic fourth-place schedule awaiting the 49ers, I wouldn't be sticking a fork in them just yet. After all, you do need to respect a team that convered Mr. Irrelevant into an NFL starting quarterback. And they still field an offense that is entirely driven off the running game. In 2024, the 49ers are now competing with a fourth-string rusher.

The thing is, where do the 49ers start? It seems that they can rationalize focusing on practically any position or position group to upgrade. But doing so via the draft will likely result in two steps backward to take three steps forward.

And so, the Rams have not only defeated the 49ers, but in true Highlander fashion, have emerged stronger than ever. And the 49ers, having fallen to the Rams for the third consecutive time. are no longer able to shrug this off and reload for the next time. Now, it's a matter of introspection. And the 49ers and 49ers fans may not be happy with the conclusions about the team.

The Rams have vanquished the 49er in 2024. As a result, the Rams have upgraded in the eyes of NFL analysts. But as in all movie sequels, new dangers await with the next episode of the series.

As always, thanks for reading.
