Of all the changes to the Los Angeles Rams coaching staff, perhaps the most dramatic yet least understood is the change impacting the wide receiver room in 2026. Former wide receiver coach Eric Yarber boasts a new title this season: Senior offensive assistant / wide receivers.
The new wide receivers coach is Rob Calabrese. And former wide receiver Robert Woods is the new assistant wide receivers coach.
While the logical reaction for fans is the fact that Robert Woods has been reunited with his former LA position coach, the team has shaken things up with the wide receiver room to prompt some more-rapid development at the position. And Woods is a key factor in that shake-up.

Since drafting wide receiver Puka Nacua, the position has struggled to generate a dependable wide receiver for the offense. Of course, the team has not invested heavily in the role in either draft currency or opportunities. In 2025, the team targeted wide receiver Jordan Whittington 25 times for 18 receptions and rookie Konata Mumpfield 23 times for 10 receptions.
LA Rams show signs of renewed emphasis on wide receivers
The LA Rams hired former Jets quarterbacks coach Rob Calabrese to take over for Coach Eric Yarber as the team's wide receiver coach. Calabrese is another member of the coaching staff who has a strong background in developing QBs. He joins a coaching staff that was built to coach up QBs, as he joins former Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury as two new coaches in LA.
Changes to the coaching staff at the position indicate renewed emphasis on the position. While Yarber has remarkable success at developing elite wide receivers, he gets additional help with the new wave of young players. Calabrese offers a comprehensive offensive strategy, while Woods can help young receivers with their techniques and mindset.
Despite the perception that Los Angeles lacks depth at the wide receiver position, that's not truly the case. LA boasts 11 wide receivers on the roster, and many simply need to get enough reps to grow into dependable NFL players.
The Horns boast two elite wide receivers in veterans Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. But as the team rearms the coaching staff to develop young receivers as well, the offense is bound to get more bang for the buck in 2026.
As always, thanks for reading.
