At some point, Matt Stafford's going to retire. And granted, I don't actually know if that's true. It's just that most players retire. I don't have the data in front of me, but I'd bet that every player who's ever played has retired. Tom Brady retired twice! But if there is a QB who simply won't retire, it's probably Stafford. In 50 years I'm pretty sure we'll all be old and gray and watching Matt Stafford lead a 5-game win streak to end the season, catapulting the Rams into the NFC Wild Card weekend as The Team No One Wants To Play. Then they'll lose by 4.

But in the off chance that doesn't happen, the Rams need a contingency plan. Stafford will be 37 this season, and the Rams haven't exactly done a great job preparing for what comes next. (Although, in their defense, with the way he's playing it's hard to really blame them.) One of these years, you'd imagine, the Rams are going to take a quarterback in the front half of the draft. And thanks to the hard work of whichever agent texted Adam Schefter on Tuesday morning, we all got a little hint about who that might be.
Jalen Milroe could finally be the Rams' plan of succession for Matt Stafford
Some potential NFC West QB intrigue: Alabama QB Jalen Milroe is in Seattle today to visit with the Seahawks and will meet later this week with the Rams, per sources. pic.twitter.com/K417MypKF7

It's an interesting visit for the Rams, who have the 26th overall pick and then aren't on the clock again until 90. 26 probably feels a bit too high for Milroe – although there's a lot of late-stage gossip about him getting into the first round – but 90 is almost certainly too late to hope he's still there. Maybe they want to package 90 and 101 together to try and get him somewhere in the middle of the 2nd? Maybe this is all just an elaborate smokescreen because the Rams are bored and have their draft plan already in place? No one really knows, though I'm sure there are plenty of DRAFT EXPERTS out there who'd argue otherwise.
As a prospect, Milroe is as intriguing as any of the QBs not named Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders. All the physical/mental tools are there, he's got plenty of high-level experience under his belt, and that 4.3 40 is going to get him paid. As a young QB, you can do a whole lot worse than landing with Sean McVay and Matt Stafford without the pressure of starting (and winning) immediately. As a QB-needy team, you can do a whole lot worse than Jalen Milroe.
