Rams' Davante Adams has already shown what kind of season he plans on having

Los Angeles Rams receiver Davante Adams is an elite playmaker. Now in his 13th season, he has eclipsed 1500 receiving yards twice and 10 receiving touchdowns seven times. Over that highly lauded career, he has a career catch rate of 62.6 percent, but caught 52.6 percent of his passes last season in LA.

2026 is a brand new year. Boosted by one his best career outings against the Giants, Adams is for now putting up career-high numbers for catch rate (68.8 percent), yards per game (110.8), yards per reception (15.1), and yards per target (13.8). That is great news for an offense that will likely forge ahead without the injured Puka Nacua again on Sunday night.

Better yet, it's clear evidence that Adams and quarterback Matthew Stafford have emerged from the lab with energetic chemistry.

While LA's offense loves to run play action and is most effective when the running game is churning out yards, head coach Sean McVay is obsessed with a strong passing game. And as long as Stafford is his quarterback, he is going to call passing plays. Without Nacua, that places a tremendous burden on Adams.

And so far, Adams has responded with incredible production.

It's easy to overlook the fact that the record books are filled with receivers who share Stafford in common. Calvin Johnson with the Lions and Cooper Kupp and a rookie Puka Nacua with the Rams have all set or challenged single season receiving records. All found themselves on the receiving side of Stafford passes.

At the ripe age of 33, Adams has nothing left to prove. And yet, he continues to outperform younger contemporaries. In Week 2, he nearly broke 200 receiving yards and scored two touchdowns. Those are incredible single-game numbers. But it could be the shape of things to come.

A highly productive Adams will draw more attention from defensive backs. But McVay is ready and has an entire arsenal of plays designed to force secondaries to cover other receivers as well. After all, Adams is not going to surprise anyone.

He's simply that good. And unless a defense is willing to commit two or more DBs his way with every snap of the football, he will get open.
