The Los Angeles Rams' preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs is ripe with varying expectations. As the adage goes, put two Rams fans in a room and you'll get three opinions.

But there is also something to be said for reaching an early consensus. If multiple fans agree on the team's top priorities, they are very likely onto something.

And so, after stitching our thoughts together before the Rams' preseason debut, we are doubling back to investigate any areas of consensus to emerge from our different perspectives and checklists. For now, what can we agree on?

Rams preseason opener should feature Simpson, Mumpfield as main characters

Who will you be most interested in seeing play against the Chiefs?

As much as we hate to admit it, rookie quarterback Ty Simpson will have our attention. But keep in mind that he will be leading bubble players against a Chiefs defense that will field starters and rotational players. In short, this will be less about Simpson's stats and more about his poise, command of the offense, and competitiveness.

Since LA will keep the training wheels on in this first game, it will be fun to see who Simpson develops the most chemistry with. After all, Simpson is projected to be a future franchise quarterback. Who joins him on the ground floor?

Which player has the most to gain?

Wide receiver Konata Mumpfield is our consensus. After struggling a bit last preseason, he is feeling pressure from rookie sensation CJ Daniels. Mumpfield caught only four of nine targets for 36 yards in two 2025 preseason games. He'll need to seize the spotlight this time or risk being passed on the depth chart.

He can do it. Mumpfield has a circus performer's agility and body English. He simply needs to put his talents on display. Could he be one of the receivers who shines on the catching end of Simpson's throws?

The preseason brings many intriguing topics to explore. But keep an eye on the offense. That's where the foundation of the future will be created.

As always, thanks for reading.
