While the 2025 NFL season is still on the horizon, the Los Angeles Rams have been rather early to rise when it comes to getting busy at tidying up the Rams roster to prepare for a new season. After a contentious and worrisome period of time after the 2025 NFL Playoffs booted the team in the Divisional Round, the Rams have been quite active.
The team had to assuage the concerns of starting quarterback Matthew Stafford and his protests over contract terms that provided just $27 million in compensation, and none guaranteed, to play for the team his season. Well, the Reader's Digest version of that tale is that the team managed to rework his contract, and both sides took the high road throughout the process.
Sean McVay on the Rams getting a restructured contract done for Matthew Stafford: "Couldn't be more grateful. Really excited about it. Been sleeping better the last couple of days."

McVay also says re-signing LT Alaric Jackson is "a big, big deal for us."
But the team did not rest. The front office instantly pivoted to address what I considered the biggest free agency priority, extending left tackle Alaric Jackson. Now, with two huge offseason actions accomplished, the Rams have created a solid beachhead for a successful 2025. And on that note. The Pat McAfee Show wisely scheduled Rams HC Sean McVay to discuss the Rams offseason strategy:

And that allowed McVay to touch base over a number of concerns that have not been directly addressed this offseason. Namely, with the Rams core players shifting from seasoned veterans to young players who are still playing on rookie contracts, what is the status of the seasoned veterans on the team who played in Super Bowl LVI?
More specifically, what do the Rams plan for starting right tackle Rob Havenstein and tight end Tyler Higbee? Well, positive news:
McVay said OT Rob Havenstein and TE Tyler Higbee will be back. He said Rams hoped to resolve some of their own pending free agent situations before free agency begins next week.

While I'm not sure that this is truly news, it does confirm that the Rams are not stripping the team of all veterans, and that lightens the load considerably as the team pivots to the upcoming 2025 NFL Free Agency market.
What I love about this McVay quote is this part: 'Rams hoped to resolve some of their own pending free agent situations before free agency begins next week.' To me, that is the gold nugget. In essence, the team is not content to let events play out, and will remain proactive to ensure key contributors will be back with the team. Who might that involve? We'll try to decipher all of that over the next couple of days.
For now, it's encouraging to see confirmation that the Rams will continue to be proactive in extending veterans for 2025. Now, it's simply a matter of who might be back, and how quickly the team can ink those new contracts.
As always, thanks for reading.
