If you can get past the shock of Los Angeles Rams nemesis, PFT's very own Mike Florio, hosting Rams Head Coach Sean McVay, you will hear some golden nuggets of information. If you enjoy the mindset behind the players, coaches, and games, then this is for you. Florio is no fan of the Rams, but he does put some interesting questions out there for McVay to address.

While there are many angles and insights to this interview, the real juice comes out around the 6:00 mark of the interview. McVay cites the two moments when rookie center Beaux Limmer suffered some miscommunication that allowed Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Jalen Carter to come roaring through unobstructed.

Sure, McVay has almost total recall of every play he has ever coached in an NFL game. But he seldom uses that information in this manner. Coach McVay did not shame Limmer per se, but it does add the mindset of the Rams head coach as the team pivoted from 2024 to 2025.

As well as rookie center Beaux Limmer played in 2024, it was clear that he was not prepared for the frenzied pace and the A-game of competition in the postseason. The Rams know that former starting center Coleman Shelton was effective throughout their Super Bowl LVI run. And that weighed heavily in the Rams' offseason motivation to bring back Coleman Shelton for 2025.

I'm not convinced that makes Shelton the anointed starting center for the Rams offensive line just yet. It certainly does give him the pole position in the race to become the starting center this season.

With the Rams planning to contend in 2025, the team needed to circle the wagons to address areas of vulnerability that manifested last season. Limmer was one of the players who truly struggled for the Rams in the playoffs, putting up an alarming 34.9 pass blocking grade in two playoff games. While there were plenty of gaffes to share the blame for losing to multiple players, Limmer's snafu can be fixed by adding veteran competition to the roster.

And Coleman Shelton has played well with the other starters.

Will it fix everything? It's merely adding competition at the center position for the Rams training camp at this point. It's up to Dylan McMahon, Beaux Limmer, and Coleman Shelton to compete for the right to start throughout training camp now. May the best Rams center win.

As always, thanks for listening.
