The Los Angeles Rams are working overtime to prepare for the 2025 NFL Draft. After all, the event is just one month away, and if you are anything like me, a month can pass you by in the blink of an eye. But this is not just any NFL Draft. This is a draft that can be as much about winning Super Bowl LX as it is about setting up this team to win Super Bowl LXV. In essence, the windows of opportunity are wide open for the team to win both today and tomorrow.
The Rams clearly have more incentive to win now. After all, as much as the team hopes it can draft a true successor to veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford, the reality is that it's unlikely to happen. At least, not in the first shot. So, it's time to harvest the fruit when it ripens. For the Rams front office, that all means rallying to build an immediate contender.
If you love the concept of being all-in for 2025, then this is a Rams mock draft that you will want to check out. We've deferred the quest to find a true successor to Matthew Stafford in this one, relying upon the wisdom of the Rams front office in setting up the depth chart with veteran QBs Jimmy Garoppolo and Stetson Bennett. Well, at least no quarterbacks drafted on either Day 1 or 2. And we've acquiesced on the team's plans to find an instant plug-and-play starting right tackle.
In this mock draft, we've even delayed adding to the running back room until after the draft.
So what does this Rams mock draft do in terms of building a true contender in 2025? Well, the Rams offense gets several B-12 booster shots, and the roster as a whole gets the type of vital depth that ensures that even the routine bumps and bruises do not derail this juggernaut from postseason competition.
And it all starts with:
Round 1 - Michigan TE Colston Loveland
While you may not believe in Michigan tight end Colston Loveland falling to the Rams at 26, in this mock draft, four quarterbacks come off the board before the Rams make a selection. Since the draft is as much about the luck of the draw as it is about the Rams' front office and its ability to find the best fit for the Rams roster, we take the tight end plunge that the team has attempted in the past two drafts.
In terms of immediate impact, the addition of University of Michigan's tight end rookie prospect Colston Loveland opens up the gateway to a host of new offensive options for the Rams. Loveland instantly becomes the understudy to starting tight end Tyler Higbee, allowing rapid rotations and extending Higbee's effectiveness over the duration of the 17-game season.
Loveland's command of the route tre, his soft hands, his remarkable size at 6-foot-6 and 248 pounds, and his basketball cross-training makes him an instant impact player. He blends the best of WR Cooper Kupp, Tyler Higbee, and former WR Ben Skowronek into a swiss-army utility knife in the Rams offense.
The Rams addition of Loveland gives the team a 12-personnel option with two solid receiving tight ends that will give defensive coordinators fits. Combine Loveland, Higbee, Tutu Atwell, and veteran wide receive Davante Adams, and you have an offense that will have open receivers at all three levels. Switch up Atwell for Puka Nacua, and you have a formation that can grit it out with any defense. Put in Nacua and Atwell, and you have an offense that can get a first down against any defense.
And then you have options for better blocking tight ends like Colby Parkinson and or Davis Allen, and you have an entirely new range of offensive formations.
Colston Loveland is not just another rookie tight end. He is talented enough to push over 1000 receiving yards as a rookie.
