Rams must make outrageously bold QB move if team loses to Raiders in Week 7
The Los Angeles Rams are hanging by a thread in the 2024 NFL Season, and a loss in Week 7 should force the team to make one outrageous QB move. I had high hopes for this team coming into the season, but an insane amount of injuries have truly derailed this season. I mean, it's not impossible for the Rams to turn this thing around.
They get to host the lowly Las Vegas Raiders in Week 7. The Rams are coming out of their bye week, so if you ask me, they are going to embarrass the Raiders. This game should truly be the biggest blowout of the week. It'd be a huge disappointment if this team can't get it done on Sunday, but if they can't and drop to 1-5, not only would they inch closer to the no. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but they should also consider making a huge QB move.
Rams must trade QB Matthew Stafford if team loses in Week 7
Trading Matthew Stafford?
Yes, absolutely. The odds of the Rams turning it around and making the playoffs in 2024 would be virtually nonexistent with a Week 7 loss, and this is especially true when you consider just how deep the NFC feels at this point in the 2024 NFL Season. The trade deadline follows the Week 9 games, and if the Rams were to lose in Week 7, I'm not sure they'd have more than two wins when the deadline approaches.
With Stafford still being able to perform at a high level but in his age-36 season this year, the Rams would be wise to ship Stafford to another team and get a headstart on finishing this rebuild they've orchestrated. The team is spilling with young talent on both sides of the ball, but they'll need to eventually get a younger, franchise QB in the building. as everyone knew that Stafford was not a long-term option.
Two teams that stick out to me as potentially being in on Matthew Stafford could be the Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins. The Steelers would feel most likely to me; this team is 4-2 despite getting pedestrian QB play from Justin Fields. The Steelers also seem likely to start Russell Wilson in Week 7, so they clearly do not have an established QB.
The Steelers could potentially package Justin Fields and some draft capital in a deal for Stafford, who'd get to enter into a win-now situation with a strong defense and some nice playmakers on offense.
It'd be a logical move for both teams to make and would be a proactive move that considers the future by GM Les Snead. This may seem like a crazy idea now, but when you consider everything I laid out, it makes a ton of sense.
