Rams offensive line provides reason for hope in Week 2 vs Giants

How would you rank the Los Angeles Rams' offensive line after Week 1? Some may remain optimistic, while others may have lowered their view of the entire team. But Pro Football Focus has not given up on the Rams just yet. In fact, despite the team only scoring seven points, PFF continues to view LA's offensive line among the NFL's top ten.

The Horns need to turn the season around quickly. Thankfully, one of the first steps in doing so requires confidence in the offensive line. If the PFF rankings are anywhere near correct, LA is already there. A rushing average 4.52 yards per carry is evidence of that fact.

The Rams were never really in a position to win by the second half. But turning the corner in Week 2 means building on any successes and fixing errors. Led by left guard Steve Avila and center Coleman Shelton, the offensive line's performance was better than it would first appear.

Rams o-line can build on Week 1 by showing up strong for Week 2

While stout in run blocking, the group struggled in pass protection. That must be addressed in Week 2, quarterback Matthew Stafford needs help to get back on track after a shaky start.

If he struggles in Week 2, there will be plenty of panic in Los Angeles. And the Rams' task will not be easy, as the Giants, their next opponent, have a formidable defense led by linebackers Brian Burns, Abdul Carter, and rookie Arvell Reese.

Coming off an impressive win over Dallas, the Giants are no slouches. Their defense stuffed the run in Week 1 to the tune of just 69 yards allowed. All in all, they surrendered just 244 yards of offense and 20 points. To put that in perspective, the Rams gave up 379 yards and 27 points.

While one game is not a relevant sample size, the G-Men are not about to roll over and play dead. So the offensive line has to be that much better in Week 2.

Still, don't discount the Rams' passion. Now that they've tasted humiliating defeat, their focus will be as sharp as ever. Whether or not jet lag contributed to a listless effort in Week 1, the decision to get in and out quickly should help LA avoid similar results against the Giants.

Now fans simply have to wait and see.
