What are the Rams playoff odds after losing to the Dolphins in Week 10?
The Los Angeles Rams messed up a golden opportunity to put themselves just outside the playoff picture after losing to the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football. With a win, the Rams would have been 5-4 and right outside the final wild card spot.
With their 23-15 loss to the Dolphins, the Rams are 4-5, which isn't a terrible record, but their playoff chances took a major hit. Now, instead of being the first team left out of the big dance, the Rams are now four spots out of the final wild card position. Oof.
When looking at the playoff picture, it'd be the Lions, Eagles, Falcons, and Cardinals representing their divisions and then the Vikings, Commanders, and Packers making it in as wild card teams. The 49ers are the first team left out of the postseason and had the Rams taken care of business on Monday night, they'd have leaped into that spot due to beating San Francisco in Week 3.
Rams' playoff odds take a massive hit following Week 10 loss to Dolphins
According to NFL Next Gen Stats, the Rams' playoff chances sit at 13%. Despite having a better record than the Buccaneers (who are 4-6), the Bucs have a better chance to make the playoffs with a 38% chance. The 49ers, who are the first team to miss out as of now, have a 57% chance of getting into the postseason. That's how big the swing was for the Rams. They went from being somewhere in that range to now sitting with a 13% chance of making the playoffs.
The good news is that the NFC West is still there for the taking. The Cardinals lead the division with a 6-4 record and the 49ers are right behind at 5-4. The Rams and Seahawks (who have an 11% chance of making the playoffs) are 4-5 and both hoping that the two teams ahead of them start to falter.
As far as the Rams' remaining schedule is concerned, it's pretty hit and miss. They have some games that should be lay-ups against the Patriots, Saints, and Jets but they also have to play the Eagles, Bills, and the other three teams in their division to close out the year. They beat the 49ers and narrowly escaped Seattle with a win but got the doors blown off of them by Arizona.
At this point, if the Rams want to make the playoffs, they have to not only win all of their remaining games but they have to hope the other three teams in their division along with the teams ahead of them in the standings all start to slip. Crazier things have happened though so don't count the Rams out until they're mathematically eliminated. This team tends to fight back hard when their backs are against the wall so let's hope that happens again down the stretch.
