Rams roster has a logjam at 2 positions, but don't look for a quick solution

This roster, like an automobile tire, feels out of balance.

II - Running back position

The LA Rams may not be one of the elite rushing offenses in the NFL but don't tell feature running back Kyren Williams. He is currently the third-ranked NFL running back in terms of rushing yards. He currently has rushed 303 times for 1,243 yards and 13 touchdowns this season with two games remaining on the Rams schedule. Unlike previous seasons, he appears to be healthy enough to start and compete in every game left this season.

He is a phenomenal running back, Just 19 days ago, he was the fifth-ranked running back in the league:

This all proves that Kyren Williams is simply too valuable to take off the football field for more than a brief rest mid-game.

The thing is, the Rams have four running backs on the roster, and the only player who is getting any meaningful work is Williams. Even rookie running back Blake Corum, a prospect so coveted that the team selected him on Day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft, has only carried the football 53 times this season for 201 rushing yards.

And yet, the team continues to explore running back additions to the roster.:

If you hoped for the Rams to consider adding a bigger rusher, think again. RB James Robinson stands 5-foot-9 and weighs 219 pounds. Former Rams running back John Kelly stands 5-foot-10 and weighs 205 pounds. Neither running back offers that power-back presence that seems to be missing from the team. Neither player was signed to the Rams roster, either to the active roster or to the practice squad.

The Rams currently boast RBs Kyren Williams, Blake Corum, Ronnie Rivers, and Cody Schrader on the active roster. And unless conditions change, the team is projected to only part ways with RB Ronnie Rivers at the end of this season due to his expired contract.

Did the front office miss a window to improve the team for the upcoming postseason? Perhaps. No free agent is a sure-thing. And that appears to be particularly true of veteran free agent signings in 2024.

Still, the insistence of the team to go heavy at the tight end and running back positions in 2024 continues to puzzle me. Do team executives know more than I do? Absolutely. But it won't stop me from asking obvious questions. Hopefully, you do not hesitate to ask questions as well.

As always, thanks for reading.
