Rams Round 1 pick could be ideal spot for NFL teams seeking a quarterback

When it comes to the 2025 NFL Draft, multiple teams want to add a rookie quarterback. Well, truth be told, I suppose that you could plop the Los Angeles Rams into that category. But the Rams quarterback situation with starter Matthew Stafford, backup Jimmy Garoppolo, and reserve Stetson Bennett is much more stable than that of many teams.

The problem is, the supply of quarterbacks simply is not going to meet the demands of this many teams. At least, not the supply of NFL-ready rookie quarterback prospects who warrant an investment of a Top-10 pick in this draft. And as more and more NFL draft analysts weigh in with speculation over which quarterbacks come off the board early, the number continues to shrink.

While we can all agree that the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and New York Giants are all in the market for a rookie quarterback, the only team now believed to use a Round 1 pick at selecting one is the Titans, who are expected to choose Miami quarterback Cam Ward.

So what does that mean for the Browns and the Giants? If this scenario holds true, their fans will be thrilled over the fact that their teams opted to go after the best NFL-ready players early in the draft.

The final weeks leading up to draft day are filled with hints, rumors, and innuendo, many of which spring from NFL teams or agents with agendas to change the momentum of a rookie prospect. If there are 'questions' about a prospect, it's often an indication that a team is in love with that prospect, but is unlikely to see him on the draft board when it steps up to the podium.

If a prospect is getting lots of love from unnamed NFL executives, that is likely a narrative from the player's agent, trying to generate some last minute buzz about that player.

Still, it's not far-fetched to envision teams selecting elite non-quarterback talent early in this draft. After all, teams that select early in Round 1 also have early picks to spend in Round 2 to trade back into Round 1 to select a quarterback. And the cost of a Round 2 (plus picks) selection for a talented rookie quarterback is fair.

At the 26th overall pick, the Rams could get plenty of phone calls. The 26th overall pick is late enough in Round 1 so as not to be too costly to pry from the Rams. But it's early enough so as to be in the right position to expect plenty of quarterback talent on the draft board. Even if Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are long gone, the presence of QBs Jaxson Dart or Tyler Shough will be enough to persuade some teams to consider trading back into Round 1.

Will the Rams surrender their chance at adding a young quarterback in this draft to trade back? It's certainly a scenario that fans should prepare for.

As always, thanks for reading.
