The Los Angeles Rams wasted little time swiping the Chiefs' starting cornerback duo, trading for All-Pro veteran cornerback Trent McDuffie and signing his teammate, CB Jaylen Watson, in free agency. They're still teammates, now wearing Blue and Yellow.Â
Behind them, the Rams do still need to fill out the cornerback depth chart. Safety Quentin Lake can play in the slot, and returning cornerback Emmanuel Forbes can at least give them energy in the role of enforcer.Â
Even after adding McDuffie and Watson, though, the math doesn't quite add up. Free agent Cobie Durant has joined the Cowboys, and Roger McCreary is on his way to play for the Detroit Lions. Darious Williams retired. In terms of body count, the Rams are still in a deficit.Â
With apologies to Watson, bringing in another former Chiefs teammate, released Tennessee CB L'Jarius Sneed, isn't such a good idea. Although Watson has pushed for the addition, Sneed fell off a cliff after leaving Kansas City. Not only has he played poorly, he has also dealt with injuries and legal issues.Â
Yikes. The Horns would be doing themselves no favors by completing the Chiefs CB triumvirate.
No need for Sneed in Rams' cornerback room
During Sneed's first four seasons, all in KC, he graded out solidly above-average. Per Pro Football Focus, his overall score of 70.6 ranked 36th at the position during that span.Â
As a Chief, Sneed won two Super Bowls and racked up 10 interceptions. Evidently, that may have been the product of playing in Steve Spagnuolo's defense more than a reflection of Sneed's raw ability.Â
With Watson's emergence as a starter, the Chiefs flipped Sneed to the Titans ahead of the 2024 season. Over the past two years, he has played a total of 12 games, with no interceptions, three tackles for loss, and three passes defensed, according to Pro Football Reference.Â
PFF graded him among the worst corners in the league in 2025, ranking him 104th out of 114. Sneed allowed the fourth-highest passer rating (137.7) and the second-most yards per catch (17.2). PFF credits him with 25 total tackles and six whiffs.Â
Not good. Not good at all.Â
To make matters worse, Sneed was involved in allegations of a drive-by shooting that occurred last November and was charged with failure to report a felony (a misdemeanor). Nothing substantial has come of the incident thus far, but there could be consequences later.Â
On the football field, at least, could he be better with a clean bill of health? Snead was shut down last season with a quad injury. Possibly, but he's also 29 and, if anything, more likely to keep getting hurt than not.Â
It's not clear, either, that he would be a better option than Forbes. By PFF grade, he is slightly worse, and at least Forbes was available for over 800 snaps last season.Â
Adding a third Chiefs corner would complete a neat reunion story, but as a business decision, it would only spell disaster.Â
