Rams shrewdly welcome back one of their top preseason performers

The Rams made a mistake by releasing IOL Wyatt Bowles. They've corrected that mistake by bringing back a promising young offensive lineman.

The Los Angeles Rams are not sitting on ceremony. This team loves to aerate the bottom of the roster and the practice squad at this time of year. And lo and behold, that is exactly what general manager Les Snead is doing right now. With an opportunity to reinforce the practice squad, would LA benefit most from another offensive weapon, a pass rusher, or even a defensive back?

Well, it seems the offensive line depth is a point of concern. Why else would the team re-sign a former preseason top performer? The player added to the practice squad is former Rams interior offensive lineman Wyatt Bowled, an outstanding young brick wall who was solid in his time with the team previously.

He is finally getting a chance on this team that he had already earned, a young man who had 38 pass blocking opportunities by Week 2 of the preseason without allowing a single pressure. At 6-foot-5, 300 pounds, Bowles was a player who earned a spot but lost out to the lottery of too many quality players for too few slots. That has now been corrected.

Why was Wyatt Bowles the wisest choice for Week 13?

Bowles is the guy who hails from Utah State, a formidable force on the offensive line who has been very impressive. Now, entering Week 13, he makes sense to come aboard and fill in more depth for that offensive unit. After all, the team's swing tackle is staring in place for Rob Havenstein.

The group cannot afford to be scrambling to find capable players this late into the season. One more injury pushes the group into less certain backups. Bowles, despite his status as an undrafted rookie, can help to alleviate those concerns.

Curiously, there is more afoot here than immediate need. The team is projected to lose four offensive linemen to expired contracts at the end of this season. One player is interior offensive lineman Justin Dedich, a solid backup who can suit up anywhere between the tackles. Bowles, while only on the practice squad, could be queued to return in 2026 on a Reserve Futures contract.

And he should be.

Keep in mind that starting left tackle Alaric Jackson was undrafted, and yet is a formidable blind-side bouncer for veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford. Bowles is one more diamond-in-the-rough who deserves his shot at an NFL career.

And he's getting it. As always, thanks for reading.
