The Los Angeles Rams have too many problems to enter any discussion about the postseason, but it will become a consideration eventually. After all, tiebreakers begin accumulating with the first game of the season. In Week 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Rams have a chance to improve their place in the conference standings.
That matters more than it should.
While still early, LA's division odds are shrinking fast. 3-0 San Francisco and 2-1 Seattle lead the NFC West. Both have easier schedules. Further complicating the climb, the Horns have dealt with constant injuries in the first three games, including many to key starters.
Judging where things stand now, they will most likely need to navigate the Wild Card route through the playoffs. Knowing this, games against NFC opponents grow in importance. A Week 2 victory over the Giants was a step in the right direction. Beating the Eagles would be even better.
Rams need a win vs. the Eagles this week
While hovering at 1-2, the Rams have some things in their favor when it comes to postseason seeding implications. For starters, in any tiebreaker that reaches the strength of victory test, they'll hopefully have an advantage simply due to a brutal schedule. If they end up tied with the Giants - not necessarily a desirable outcome - the Rams have the head-to-head advantage.
If they can beat the Eagles, they'll secure that tiebreaker as well.
Of course, it's still quite early. There are many games to play. Furthermore, there is Matthew Stafford's nasty losing streak since joining the Rams in 2021. Stafford and company have lost four straight games to the Birds.
And after an embarrassing loss to the Bears on Monday Night Football, Philly will be extremely focused.
Still, LA has the talent, and now it has the blueprint to beat the Eagles after the Bears ran all over them. That opened up the passing game enough for five receivers to put up 21 receptions for 242 yards and two touchdowns. Now is the perfect time for the Rams to commit to a run game that has been very effective thus far.
They have the talent, the game plan, and the motivation to pull off a victory in Week 4. Now, it all comes down to how badly they want to win. We'll find out soon enough.,
As always, thanks for reading.
