The LA Rams have lived by turnovers this season. That is, the defense has managed to create more turnovers than the Rams offense has giveaways. And it has been that ability of the defense to get the football back to the offense. That strategy has been very successful. Well, until running back Kyren Williams runs against this Philadelphia Eagles defense.
Kyren Williams has been running the football very effectively in this game. Eagles RB Saquon Barkley has rushed 19 times for 118 yards and a touchdown. Kyren Williams is in hot pursuit, with 16 rushes for 100 yards, and no touchdowns.
Williams has opened up the throttle, starting to put up significant gains. And with each positive run, the Rams offense has gotten stronger and stronger. At one point, the Rams had tied the score. And after the Eagles kicked a field goal to take the lead, the Rams defense sacked Eagles QB Jalen Hurts in the end zone for a safety. That put the score heading into the fourth quarter:
LA Rams 15
Eagles 16
But the weather and a physical Eagles defense is nothing to sneer at. The first gaffe by this Rams offense came with the next possession. With the Rams facing a second down and two yards to go, Eagles DT Jalen Carter punched the football out of Kyren WIlliams hands, and the football was recovered by the Eagles.
The Rams held, forcing the Eagles to kick a field goal.
On the next possession, Stafford dropped back to pass facing third-down and 10 yards to go, and as Stafford was sacked, he coughed up the football. Two offensive possessions. Two Rams defensive stops. Two kicked field goals.
With 6:18 remaining in the game, and the Rams offense unable to even successfully complete three downs and a punt, the outlook is not good at all.
And then Eagles RB Saquon Barkley just took off for another touchdown.
4:36 remaining in the game
Los Angeles Rams 15
Philadelphia Eagles 28
The Rams need a miracle. I'm just not sure the team has one in it right now.
As always, thanks for reading.
