Seahawks snapped this Rams running back's 10-game scoring streak in Week 9
By Bret Stuter
LA Rams running back Kyren Williams had a 10-game scoring streak going all the way back to Week 16 in the 2023 NFL season. But that scoring streak was snapped in Week 9 of the 2024 NFL season, thanks to the Seattle Seahawks run defense, led by former Rams inside linebacker Ernest Jones IV.
This was by no means a 'grudge' match for Ernest Jones, nor was it one for Kyren Williams. This was simply hard-nosed classic football. While it did not turn out too poorly for the LA Rams, it was certainly a see-saw battle that showcased some of the best of both teams.
Let's face it. All good things come to an end, right?
Williams was not particularly effective in this game. He caught just one of three passes, but he did rumble that one reception for 26 yards. He rushed 22 times for just 69 yards, averaging just 3.1 yards per carry. This was his worst average since a Week 2 effort against the Arizona Cardinals netted him just 25 yards in 12 carries, an average of just 2.1 yards per carry.
So who did score for the offense in Week 9? Therein lies the rub.
The Rams offense does tend to gravitate towards a handful of players. When it works, it works incredibly well. But when it doesn't, it leaves some bad optics. It's almost as though the defense knows what's coming. The Rams' offense has struggled mightily when that happens. And I don't know that we can simply give a waiver for the offense due to injuries.

Speaking of which, the Rams distribution of carries in this game opens the door to a lot of questions. Kyren Williams rushed 22 times. He has 161 carries this season in eight games, averaging just over 20 carries per game. His teammate, rookie running back Blake Corum, has just 21 carries for the season. In the five games he has touched the football, he is averaging just 4.2 carries per game.
The Rams need to throttle back on Williams, and accelerate on Corum. Ideally, the teams should end the season with Williams at approximately 200 carries this season, and Corum at 120 carries this season. With Williams scoring streak ending, the team needs to pivot to a new scoring strategy.
Hopefully, this will allow the offense to spread the ball around more effectively.
