How can any head coach summarize a thrilling back-and-forth contest that featured five lead changes and ended in a dramatic win over the Indianapolis Colts? For Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay, finding the right words is never an issue.
But this one was different. From the explosive 88-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Tutu Atwell to 375 passing yards and three touchdowns from quarterback Matthew Stafford, this one had the unmistakable feel of the 2021 Super Bowl season.
As McVay opened his postgame press conference, he scanned the room. NFL media and beat reporters had tape recorders, pencils, and paper in hand. If a picture paints a thousand words, then surely this white-knuckle roller coaster would test the veteran coach’s command of the English language. How do you sum up a game filled with dozens of pivotal plays and game-changing moments? McVay did it in seven words:
"We’re not a boring team to watch."Rams head coach Sean McVay
And in one succinct statement, his post-game presser masterfully sums up the white-knuckler finish for Week 4.
Coach McVay had to love what he saw from his team in Week 4
After a second-half meltdown in Week 3 that erased a 26-7 lead over the Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles rebounded in Week 4 with a 14-point fourth quarter that erased an Indianapolis Colts 20-13 lead for the victory. It was more than another fourth-quarter comeback victory. It was vintage Matthew Stafford piloting the team as though it were 2021 all over again.
Complete with an 88-yard touchdown pass to win the game with less than two minutes on the game clock.
This was no ordinary win. This was huge. It was the type of victory that lights a fire in a team that has been waiting for the dominoes to fall the right way. This game was sandwiched between the Eagles in Week 3 and the rival San Francisco 49ers in Week 5. But this was a team that remained focused on the here and now.
The team is 3-1 after four games. But three wins have come at the expense of three AFC South teams. While a win is a win, if you bother to concern yourself with the eventual NFL tiebreakers that weigh heavily in terms of seeding for the NFL Playoffs, these three wins carry the least weight. The loss to the Eagles carries far more impact. It is the lone NFC game played so far.
But the NFL schedulers did not give Los Angeles any opportunity to secure an advantage in tie-breakers early in the season. In the first seven games of 2025, LA will have faced all four AFC South teams, one AFC North team, one NFC East team, and one NFC West team. The team is already preparing to host the San Francisco 49ers on a short week in Thursday Night Football.
What should fans expect? In the words of head coach Sean McVay, this is not a boring team to watch. And in spite of the anxiety and drama fans experience, it's likely that many fans ultimately enjoy the thrills. Stay tuned. As always, thank you for reading.
