Sean McVay didn’t sugarcoat a thing after Rams’ brutal Seahawks loss

The season is over for the Los Angeles Rams after losing to the Seattle Seahawks, and head coach Sean McVay is trying to come to terms with that reality.

The Los Angeles Rams were on the doorstep of a Super Bowl appearance, but ultimately fell short, losing to the Seattle Seahawks 31-27. The competitive NFC Championship game came down to the very final play, but the Rams ultimately ran out of time and opportunities. Now, their season is over, and a division rival is advancing to the Super Bowl.

That’s a brutal reality to come to terms with, and Los Angeles head coach Sean McVay is, admittedly, struggling to do that. Following Sunday’s loss, McVay expressed that he was numb. The head coach said he didn’t allow himself to think about any possibility but winning and going to the Super Bowl, so the finality of Los Angeles’ loss had him short on words.

Sean McVay at a loss for words is never a good sign.

Sean McVay says he’s numb after Rams lose to Seahawks in NFC Championship

Like the other two games played between these two teams this season, Sunday’s matchup was extremely close. McVay and company also had a good day on the offensive side of the ball. The Rams had 479 total yards of offense — 83 more than Seattle — and scored 27 points. Matthew Stafford and L.A.’s elite receiver duo also had a productive day, and the team averaged 5.2 yards per rush. Those things weren’t enough, though.

In the end, the Rams had too many mistakes and missed opportunities. From special teams blunders, to being 1-of-8 on third down, to turning the ball over on downs from Seattle’s six-yard line, with five minutes left in the game, Los Angeles didn’t capitalize on its opportunities. The team has to live with that, and figure out a way to do it all over again next season.

While the Rams have been perennial contenders under Sean McVay, everyone understands each season is it’s own entity, so it’s no guarantee the team will be in position to right their wrongs next season. McVay was already asked about the future of veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford, so that could be a sign of what’s to come this offseason.

Next year’s team could look totally different, and McVay knows that. That could be part of the reason he is so numb at the team being unable to get the job done this season.
