Sean McVay gave Rams fans another thing to look for in preseason game vs Chiefs

At last, Los Angeles Rams preseason is here, scheduled to kick off at 1 PM PT this afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium against the Kansas City Chiefs. Rams fans will have plenty to look for, most notably the play of both backup quarterbacks in Stetson Bennett and Ty Simpson. 

While there are several playmakers to keep tabs on, for his part, head coach Sean McVay called out the offensive line as a group he's excited to see in preseason action. In fact, he likes what he's seen already from starters like Coleman Shelton, Kevin Dotson, and Steve Avila, although they won't suit up later today per the Rams' policy of sitting nearly all starters and key backups:

"I've been pleased with that group," McVay said Thursday. "I think Bo Limmer's had a really strong camp as well as Dylan [McMahon]. I'm looking forward to watching some of those guys compete on Saturday."

Fans, too, should take a special interest in how the offensive front fares against Kansas City. Depth concerns continue to nag at that position, especially with guard Justin Dedich sustaining a non-football hand injury ahead of training camp, so it will be crucial to see who can fill a meaningful role in the rotation.

Rams fans should be zeroed in on o-line performance vs Chiefs

Limmer isn't playing for a roster spot - he'll make the team - but he can make the case that he deserves more playing time than he got last season, when he barely played at all despite starting 14 games as a rookie. It sounds like Dedich will be ready to go by season's start, but certainly the Rams would love to have another dependable option on the interior.

McMahon probably isn't guaranteed a place on the roster, but the impressive camp McVay credits him with a strong step in that direction after spending last season on the practice squad. 

In addition to Limmer and McMahon - whether or not those two suit up against the Chiefs, given their status as projected rotation players - Wyatt Bowles and veteran Blake Hance could compete for preseason reps on the interior, plus UDFAs Austin Blaske and Bill Murray.

By far the most interesting lineman on fans' radar, however, will be rookie tackle Keagen Trost. Alaric Jackson still faces a likely suspension. Despite a quiet camp, Trost could still be thrust into the Week 1 starting lineup if he balls out in the preseason. 

Or, McVay might ask David Quessenberry, another name who drew his praise, to plug the gap. With Jackson in and out during camp to manage his blood-clotting condition, Quessenberry, not Trost, was McVay's pick for first-team reps. 

As a veteran, Quessenberry could sit out, creating additional opportunities at tackle for 2022 seventh-rounder Aj Arcuri and undrafted rookie Bryce Henderson.
